Arrgh... it's a nice snakehead species. Not "Strain".
Let's make it clear. There is only ONE Channa(Genus) aurantimaculata (SPECIES). I don't know if there are local variations to this species, but if there were, then the local variations would then be termed "Strain"
As an example:
Apistogramma agassizi "Santerem red head".
Apistogramma = Genus (starts with capital letters)
agassizi = Species (always in small letters).
There are many species in the Apistogramma genus such as: cacatuoides, macmasteri, hongsloi etc etc....
Finally, the "Santerem red head" - is a STRAIN. It is effectively an agassizi, but it is just that the agassizi in that area of Santerem possess a red head that is unique to that population. It is not different enough to be scientifically classed as a "species", but it is different superficially to other populations, hence the usage of "Strain"... in inverted commas.
Hope that has confused you.... LOL
Finally, C.aurantimaculata... easy fish to keep. Keep in black water (ie lots of ketapang leaf), and keep a tight cover.. these things die jumping out of tanks.
