Default Decaps BBS

Apologies for the late post due to ADSL problems. As requested by Woopee and taken from various sources, tried, tested and modified with my own variations. Try at your own risk!

1) Rehydrate BBS eggs:
put the desired amount of BBS eggs into a glass jar and add enough water to cover the eggs and stir with stainless steel spoon every once in a while for an hour. Scope up floating egg shells. Rehydrated eggs volume will increase. Add enough water to cover them.

2)Decaping eggs:
Add bleach 1:1 ratio with water and stir with spoon. The duration depends on the quality of eggs. During this process the jar will turn hot. The process ends when the eggs turn orange, that's when the shells begins to melt because of the bleach and lots of foam will be on the surface. Remove surface foam and drain the rest into a very fine stocking/coffee filter paper and wash throughly under tap water until smell of bleach is removed. You can add vinegar to help in this process.

***A short lazy version: add BBS eegs, water, bleach and airhose in a glass jar and leave for about an 1/2 an hour. The rest of the procedure is the same as above. I use this method fequently.

Storing:
I use one of those small ice cooler container and filled it with sea salt solution. This is a super saturated salt solution about 3-4 tbs, depends on the size of container but as much as possible and store in the fridge. It'll keep for months and you can still hatch from there. I tried but not sucessful. Guess it's due to the batch of bad BBS eggs as others has been sucessful.

Feeding:
Use a syringe and add few drops to feed the fries. Not too much and you need to siphon often after every feed, otherwise the BBS will somehow form together and contaminate the water very quickly. It is said that it's contains more nutritions.

Hope the above is useful and have not left anything out as it's getting late again and getting blur.

Rgds
