I know some US hobbyist actually having BD in planted tanks. But they will probably need much more space than I do. My 4ft planted tank is fully operational. And the plants and fish is 'thriving'. Only a bit tired of doing water changes and trimming of rapid growing plants. My 2nd planted 4 ft tank is in bad shape. So I guess I will have to get my 3 ft tank ready (non-planted) for the BD. Ready for a shocking experience, but CC can keep fish for 1 week for me or not? Hoping that the 2nd planted tank matures well enough so that it can take the BDs. So far so good,... the baby carps are not dead!
