I normally pull them off from the substrate when they grow too tall, then I cut them into half. I replant the top part and throw the bottom part.
I can reserve the bottom portion for you next time I trim them. Will SMS or IM you then.

Usually you don't throw away the bottom part as the plant anak will grow from the remaining stem. This is where you can multiply your plant.
If you only plant the top part and throw the bottow then you will always have the same number of plant.
