In this setup you are showing, have you encountered any algae yet? (haha...'yet'...jahat betul). I am having some little issues with hair and brown algae. Hair on the leaves that are nearest to the water surface (lights) and brown algae on moss at the bottom and mid level of the tank.

This will be the end of the second week since I re-scaped. Haven't added any ferts yet apart from the base fert in the substrate. Thought of removing any traces of algae, trimming general cleaning before planting ferts tabs. Ok ah?
Expensive UV lights could go as high as rm15,000 per unit...i have some of those plus a couple of Ozone machines (industrial grade) for my live seafood storage in indonesia.
as on the hobby side...im not so willing to spend any big money...so everything has to be cheap...and the rm65 price suits me just fine.
becarefull when using UV lights...too much of it does more harm than good. a few hours a day would be enough...for your setup size ...2 hours would be more than enough on a 9w UV.
if no more algae...stop the usage of UV.

the NO 1 setup ...is done on purpose to contract algae, full lighting ..full blast of ferts and...yes it has algae....mainly green hairy type.
the main aim is to test several anti algae medication and the use of UV lights.
Ocean Free brand wins in the first round and with one application only....the others havent been tested....i already got a winner in my hands.

Brown and Green algae together ah ...aiyo brader....u use what light ah? PL izzit? if true is PL ...then u know where you problem is....PL light is ultra powerfull on Lux ...its more than your 2 footer tank can take.
for PL lights i onli recommend if the height of your tank is 2 feet and over, other wise use normal flo tubes.

the main concern is ...does algae still appear now after u re did your tank 2 weeks ago?..if yes...the i suggest u rethink about investing in a new tank and plants....and do things the right way this time round .
investing in an UV light is not going to solve your problem, its not easy to keep healty plants free from algae in a 2 footer. it really takes a lot of experience and know how to maintain a small tank...the smaller the more diffcult it becomes

believe this or not ....people who do badly with a 2 footer often get better result when they switch to a bigger tank.

as with your trimming this weekend...if u have algae in your tank now...what will happen if u trim is...more algae will appear...remember what i said about plants would slow down on fotositensis after trimming...and u are about to add in ferts...wow...i smell burning from the ricepot!!!!
