like you said 2)get some sodium bicarbonate...yup baking powder...3 tablespoon to be exact....and put in the tank for 2 days...stop all fileration. after that a 100% water change...add in some PSB or whatever bacteria and let the fileration run for a week....cover the tank with newspaper ...try to keep it really dark.
3 tablespoons of soda powder for 2ft tank might increase the KH from 0 to 2 immediately. Beside those tough fishes. Do you think other smaller fishes like tetra and shrimp able to stand of KH swing in suddent?
And stop all the filteration. No O2 provided? Fishes able survive for 2 days since non photoperiod and no O2 provided.

yar yar ..thanks for pointing that out....i meant to say KOsong Tank, NO fish NO plants....to start all over again. this method is to kill every living thing in the tank ...with algae on top of the list...thats why stop filterations....and 100% water change.
Lucky u are the first to notice that..hehehehe
18000K is more to the reddish side , mix with 6800K white...will produce the right blend for a two footer. a 18000k on its own is not really suitable for plants.
yup..this is the tone use for marine tanks especially good for hard corals and coraline algae.
using a single tone lets say...6800 to 8000K is good..but take this into consideration...natural sunlight doesnt shine white light 12 hours a day.
if u study the light spetrum..it should be yellowish at dawn, bright white at noon and reddish at dusk.
for a bigger tank u could play around with the colour tones using a timer...but for a 2 footer...the mix choice is between 2800K and 6800K or 6800k and 18000K. but most planters would keep the lighting on up to 9 or 10pm...so it obvious to recommend 6800 and 18000k combo.
if u have a pair 6800k running up to 12hours a day in 2 footer...the algae would surely come back.
in a case study....and i must mention 88 again...
the bos , ah siew...back in the days when he use do his own planting ..many beautifull planted setup could be seen in 88, nowdays ..Phuuut! the planted tanks all look like shit...coz its done by the workers.
one of my business partner is a ex 88 worker...he said that ah siew would encourage his workers to use whatever they want for planted setups..imagine using all the ferts or whatever for free....somehow they could not grow plants as beautifull as ah siew....even though they using the same materials as ah siew.
why?...so my partner ask ah siew the reasons...and his reply was...Dawn noon and dusk....thats all , short without conclusion.
he then for once inspected the lightings used by ah siew...and true he found...yellow , white and red....and being smart he kept that secret to himself. after that his plants being to out do those planted by his co-workers.
well this all was over 10 years ago.
we now tends to use timers for better results.
im not trying to promote ah siew...infact he is my business rival...but then he is really good...its a shame he doesnt do any planting nowdays...too busy enjoying his money on other
attractions
its not wrong to say he is one of the best around...his glosso planting methods is really awsome......but then when it comes to marine and filteration section i will whip his ass anyday...hahaha...u win some u lose some.
