Plants use CO2 during the day and give out oxygen. During the night they will use the oxgygen and give out CO2.
So in a heavily planted tank you should have extra aeration at night.
Its a common cause of death in ponds with green water, at night the algae is taking all the oxygen and the fish just suffocate.
