Hi Everyone
It takes considerable amount of effort to ensure low mortality rate for imported Altums. When you're spending big bucks to bring them in, it pays to give sufficient attention to what is required to adapt this majestic fishes to our local water. More often than not, this takes time.
You may just feel fortunate that the fishes arrived intact in every bag (though this is rarely the case), but your fears are still not over cos there is an apparent risk of ammonia burn (if transfer fr bag to quarantine water is not done properly) and also columnaris which seems to be killing most of the altums, if not all. Such incidents are high in countries that import large quantities of wild caught Altums like America.
It was said that wild scalare were found in the Venezuelan waterways and if you are told that the altum for sale is a genuine P.Altum from Venezuela, be cautious ! I guess it would be best to verify the breed through physical attributes than by area where the fishes were collected.
Cheers
