Hi stvloh,
For aro which has has been fed with live food other than pellets, it
is quite difficult to train them. You can always try. No harm done.
For your info, I've trained before my aro to eat aro pellets.
What I do is the same thing. Starve it for 2 weeks.
From my experience, the aro will first eat them and spit them out.
As I have tankmates with my aro, the tankmates will finished the pellets if
my aro doesn't eat them.
I'm quite lucky. So, after more than 10 attempts, my aro ate the pellets. I feed my aro for abt 3 months and then I stop feeding pellets as it make the water red in color and clouldy.
As for younger aros (meaning size abt 3" to 5"), the chances are higher as I believe it is easier to train. Just feed them. They will consume it after sometime. If not, try again.
But beware of PLJ (protuding lower jaw). This usually happens when the aro do not eat enough.
But once you feed them with live food, it is quite difficult to return feeding them with pellets.
This is from my experience, I hope by sharing this info, you could judge for yourself.
Cheers.
