I purchased a breeding pair of Angels from lfs. They insisted that their fish were acclamated to the local water ph of around 7.2 - so that their customers wouldn't take fish home and kill them immediately. I really liked the angel pair and paid for them - to pick up later as I was setting up a new heater in my 100/120 gal tank. My ph was 7.2 in the tank, but lfs still insisted it was ok for these angels. When I picked up fish, she had moved them to another tank, stating that the new angels just arrived were being picked on by my pair, as they were trying to breed. All of this made some common sense to me.

The angels seem to be doing fine, the female(?) pearl is bright and shiny and the male(?) calico is brilliant colored white, orange and black. They stick together much of the time and act as if they are actually a pair.

My question is, will they breed in this high ph? Everything I read says I need lower ph. I added a piece of driftwood, reading that it would help lower ph, but nothing has happened. Would adding peat pellets to my canister filters do anything to lower the ph? Ideas? Info? THANKS
