Hi,

What I usually do for female guppies is to remove them from the main tank and place them in a small tank with few strands of elodea. I usually do this about 1 week before the drop. The female gestation period is about 30 days, but it depends. After a while you will figure out the exact gestation period.

I find that by doing this, the female won't be so stressed when they finally make the drop. Once, I forgot to remove a pregnant female and then I removed it just before the drop and it failed....few fry survives. Mainly due to the female's stress I believe.

By putting one female in a single tank also means that you have to have lots of small tanks. Besides including plants, I also do daily small water change. Hope this helps.
