All Sifus Please Comment
Hi All,
I will be starting reno for my new home soon. In the front garden, I will be building a fish pond. I will use this to keep some TVR and other Top View goldfish. I may even keep some carp. I have not made up my mind yet.
Anyways, I have attached a drawing for the pond. Please excuse the grainy quality of the pix. Some explanation.
- The pond is 36"(W) x 36"(L) x 24"(D). This can contain about 135gal of water.
- Tiles are dark coloured granite or similar.
- There is a 3" 'wall' around 2 sides of the pond (I'm wondering if I should make the wall taller (8") to prevent cats from makaning my fish).
- The water depth will be maintained at 24" at all times.
- Above the pond there will be some wooden strip structure for shade
- I intend to use a Hight-flow canister filter (any recommendations on the brand and type I should use)?
- I intend to house the filter in a waterproof wooden box. There will be ventilation vents at the side of the box.
- The inflow tube will be at the east corner of the pond.
- Will fit the outflow tube at the Northwest wall using an installation set to regulate flow (make it like a waterfall).
- Above the wooden box, I will place a pot of creeper plant so that this will provide more shade for the pond.
- At this point I have not planned for a air-pump. Whould it be necessary?
I would appreciate any comments from all of you regarding this setup. All comments are welcome. Also...does anybody know how much I should budget for this setup? Any other factors I may have missed out?
Many thanks!
