We need to balance things up here. If you think the shape the of stomach is developing well but other area need to improve. Which mean the shape is "going" out of balance. Therefore, you'll need to slow down on what you're doing and spend more effort on other area. Make sure all area is develop inline.
Say, for judging points. Head 25% Body 25% Tail 25% and Swimming 25%. You only strike well on the body and make good score. yet other area might pull the points down. Therefore, need to work on other area too.
Now, what you do now with 7 days Water change technique, you'll sacrifice one more day of feeding blood worm and give them more time to chew on carpet algae. Therefore, head development will be improved. Nevertheless, body still develops but slower and let other area to catch up.
Another note,
If you see your fish swimming everywhere and tail seems weakening (Looks soft, Heavy folding, etc.). Reduce the carpet algae surface area. So, during normal days. they'll tend to stay around the algae spot. To have further control of their amount of swimming, place a piece of board (reasonable size, not too small) on top of the tank and create some sort of small shade; say, 1/3 to 1/4 of the tank surface area. Believe it or not, they'll spend at least 60-70% of their time there (except sleeping).
