i use to have a 4 foot snakeheads only tank. in those days(1986) C.Gachua is indeed rare and expensive, i got mine 3inch + for rm60, thats alot of money back in 86.
my family is buddist, and my dad would never allow me to feed live food, ha a buddist thing. but that didnt stop me from keeping live food eaters. a fish will eat anything to survive. i feed my snakeheads frozen prawn meat, the ones sold in markets, shell them leave only the meat and keep in the freezer.
if they dont eat it today , they will the next day or until they give in to hunger but soon or later they will eat. newcomers will watch the older ones eat and they will follow suit.
sucess really depends on you....are you giving in to their demands or they give in. dont worry they will not die if they dont eat for a few weeks...
another trick is to feed at night...some fishes just dont eat when we are watching them. if you find the prawns are no longer there in the morning...then they are eaten, you dont have to see to know the fishes are eating.
i was at pudu pasar this morning..i saw gachua, a 5in speciement selling at rm16, and 2 species of snakeheads which i couldnt really be for sure which species...man they are cross breeding horse shit nowdays, anyway i was itching to start a new snakehead tank....i was thinking , thinking and thinking, finally walked away....jangan cari penyakit..i told myself...hahaha

come to think of it my first tigershovelnose catfish , a 6inch cost me rm250 in 1987, man that was a loan i took from my uncle , i was on rm150 monthly allowance as a student at ukm, took me years to pay him back hehehe...nowdays tsn cost a lousy 20bucks for a 6inch..phuuui!
