Hey Stan, those are actually Peruvian Scalares ler...... identical to the one you saw in the last shipment that Kev brought in from Peru. Not the True Altums... True Altums have their fins really erected straight one ler.... like er er er...... Morning Wood !!!! :P (Sorry ! Can't help myself), unless they have clamped fins.

Stan, those CANNOT be from Peru lah.

I'm 99% sure the pic is of adult real altums. I've got a few sitting in display tank in Aust.

Peru does not export the REAL altum. Altums only come exported from South America thru Columbia and infrequently thru Venezuala. Anytime u see Altum on a Peruvian list it won't be the real thing.

There is a similar high finned wild angel out of Peru which some of the Germans have called P.scalare peruensis aka Peruvian altum. These look like the shape of the real altum as juveniles (except the bars are thinner), but never grow to the size of the real altums.

Eh, btw as far as I know there's no official "grade" system for altums. They come as they are caught. Any "grade" is superficially man made.

the man kev has spoken...

actually went there today for another look...got a couple of scalares in there and it looks mightily diff from the altums...

somebody said peru has altums but their bodies are thicker and bigger like the ones in pix??? maybe somebody threw in some altums in peru's rivers to get some hybrids? nye nyea! whatever...have to box those fella's ears in who give wrong info...

i agree with the man given grades. that said, is it true that to get the fins nice and long, juves should not be overfed? is this just bs?

btw what is max size of real altums? 14 in ht?

the ones i saw were 9 to 12 in ht. not as reported by me earlier...shame shame...
