Stan, check the fish pictured in the Japanese site to your altums and see if you can spot the difference.... Something not quite right about those Japanese altums.

the dorsal and anal fins have bigger wings...the red eyes throw me off too. some pix look like the real thing but some don't. not expert on this but the fish on website are fairly good but the proportions are not great.

just my opinion...what do you think. could be breeding form but i seriously doubt so...

The Jap guy Engerland vely good .... can't understand what he's saying. His fish is nice though doubtful. Japs are fairly good in breeding fishes too so it comes as no surprise to me if they manage to breed Altums.

these are my juve altums,

draw your conclusions. adult peruvian ones do have bigger wings...
these are columbian[so i'm told]

hi guys,

i was sitting spying on my altums and they do look like the japanese website guy's altums in some instances when they are fighting. the 5th vertical stress bar becomes darker[black] when they peck each other.
must be entering puberty...haha...

still i like the smaller ones. the proportions are nicer than the bigger ones.

btw you need min 2ft high tank. 2.5 or 3 ft high tank ideally.

Errrm, Stan or Gary I've got a 7cm tall altum - 1pc only - available for sale atm. This fish tough like nails liao... living in my pond for more than a month liao.
