Hi - It has been many many years since I had aquariums and knew what I was doing in caring for fish so I now have a question I hope someone can answer for me. My grandson has two small goldfish in a 2 gallon aquarium (Goldie and Goldiefish). When we brought them home Goldie had been nibbled on - her (his?) tail was practically non-existent. Well, they have grown and thrived and Goldie has a beautiful new fan tail and they've always gotten along very well. Two days ago I noticed that Goldiefish has taken a couple of bites out of Goldie's beautiful new tail. I slid the beta screen into the aquarium to keep them separated until I figure out why this is happening. I at first wondered if I hadn't fed them enough and Goldie was just hungry but doubt that's the problem. I wondered if one may be male, the other female & someone got a little too frisky . . .

Khoobg -THANK YOU for starting this forum! I think the last discussion about 55 gal. aquariums became overwhelming on the Koi forum and (perhaps) not what they wanted to talk about? Anyway, this is better for the little fishies! Re: Goldiefish bit Goldie (or vice versa) - Are you sure the fish that looks bitten does not have tail and fin rot? It sounds like she had it before due to the condition of her tail and it may have come back. This would not be G (or GF's) doing, but a bacterial infection. I am battling one on my apparently elderly Black Moor now and cannot seem to get rid of it. He is quarantined now. I have used PimaFix (10 days straight) and Super Sulfa (every other day for 8 days) with frequent water changes. He is healthy and hungry, but has lost much of his fantail and dorsal fin. They seem to be growing back, but he still has a lot of white color over his fins and body. Can't put him with other fish, what's up? Other suggestions?

Ha-ha. Good one on me! You've been around a long time and I only just noticed! I guess I never scrolled down far enough on KoiForum to find this site. Would have saved me from overloading that one about my other fish! HE-HE. I hope I can be helpful here.
