A saw those "CO2 long-term test" indicated by the colour to tell the CO2 level in the water..
Are these product accurate and does a lot of people uses them here ?? Just needed some feedback on these accessories... Thanks Stanley |

Nope in my opinion they're totally not accurate at all, especially SERA's one as it actually gives the wrong CO2 content when green (They turn green when there's only 15mg/l of CO2 in the water, something really wrong here). The reason why I say they're not accurate is cuz you have to mix some aquarium water with the indicator drops. What happens when you do a water change as the water chemistry changes? The only one that I think is accurate & which I'm also using is Dennerle's new long term CO2 indicator as you don't have to mix with any aquarium water, you just squeeze an ampoule of the CO2 indicator into the cool looking plastic container and thats it, it only measure pure CO2 content in the tank regardless of changes in the water column & gives accurate pH also, no need to mix with water, which also means you can shift it from tank to tank to check the CO2 content. Green means you have enough CO2, simple as that

Stan,
I thought it was pretty cool to have the CO2 indicator so I bought the Sera's. Like overdrive says, water changes will render it useless already. In fact all these indicators are a waste of time as your eyes are the true judge of whether your plants and fish are growing healthily. A novelty that didn't last. I'd rather spend the money on getting a good antichlorine like stresscoat and better fish pellets! |

dear overdrive / pauline,
Thanks for the feedback.. that what I thought too... it just too simple for a small piece of equipment that can measure CO2 in the water... And not many people uses it too except for aquarium shops.. The Dennerle's new long term CO2 indicator sounds interesting, how much is this selling here and which shops carries them ?? Stanley |

The Dennerle CO2 indicator came with 5 ampoules of the indicator liquid, supposed to change the liquid once a month for it to be really accurate, but I haven't changed mine yet and its already 2 months (kiasu!) but the colour is still there and did not change from the first day I put it in and still accurate cuz I tested the pH also. So I guess the ampoules could last you about a year which is alright. I saw from Pet Family's brochure, a pack of 5 ampoule refills cost RM55. Which Dennerle CO2 set selling for RM120? So cheap?
