Default Can someone pls recommend a good hairdresser please?

My plants need a haircut badly!

I've increased CO2 and stopped dosing fertiliser already. Done 50% water change also. Is there anything else that I need to do?

Thanks!

I'm having the same problem too. Kimco successfully tried using ferts to control and eliminate these algae. I'm too using these combination of ferts: Dernelle A1 and Gold 7 plus Azoo Algae Treater at 70% of the recommended dosage. I guess that this is a long term procedure to eliminate them.

To remove them use 2 tooth picks and tie them on a rubber band to a chopstick. Place the tip of the toothpick to the algae and twist. The algae will be stuck to the toothpicks like cottons.

Don't reduce ferts, you're just stunting your plants, continue fertilising as normal, check your NO3 and PO4 and whether they're 0, if they are, increase them. You can't remove them as they will grow faster than you can remove them by hand. Try cutting the affected leaves away instead, as those with algae growing on them will never survive anyway, the plants will just sprout new leaves, so might as well help them to do that earlier by cutting away affected leaves, then only use Dennerle's E15 (It contains white iron and high potassium) and Gold7 (improves plant growth) during algae attack after waterchanges with continously high CO2 (35-40mg/l is fine). The plant will grow new strong leaves unaffected by algae, continue to cut away affected leaves, changes water 50% once a week. Sooner ot later with this regime, yoru plant will OUTGROW the algae, that's the main objective. Algae killers are not required at all.

OMG!!!!!! what a mess!!! I thought mine was bad.....................!!!!!!! Anyway best of luck with whatever regime you are trying,........... just a word of caution, if you have wood shrimp, a high CO2 could prove fatal!!!!! Other shrimps can tolerate higher CO2 but not wood.

Cheers,

KG

High CO2 won't remove it, it will only stagnate it, then your SAEs and Amano's will eat them as they get softer. I put in 15 amano's and 4 SAEs the last time when I had the problem, now totally free of this dreaded hair algae ) Remember not to feed for 3 days, then feed lightly
