Perhaps they jump out. coz among all the shrimps. I found yamato is a very good jumper.

Check carefully. Maybe not dead but actually shell because they molt (shed off shell) especially after changing water.

Yes, good jumper. Mostly when reintroduced to new tank and not accustomed to the water yet.

So far in my experience, my yamatoes only die when the copper content is high (about 0.5mg/l or more). This was rectified when I used a double dose of a good water conditioner to remove the heavy metals. Another is when my PO4 is high (around 1.5mg/l). high CO2 doesn't seem to effect yamatoes, but they're very sensitive to Ammonia buildup, so make sure your filter is working properly. I always see empty yamato shells, and that my yamatoes are getting larger, when they grow they will shed their shells. The time they do this they're very vulnerable, and tend to hide, maybe thats why you cant find them

I also bought most of my Yamatos from NA. So far only 1 has died out of 9. Maybe they are hiding among the 'bushes'.

to tell you the true, yamato is not a good jumper, but they can climb, i lost about 60+ yamato in one night, when i last order a 100 yamato to share with the forumers.
this kind of shirmo they ar build to climb. so when they are not used to the new enviromant or water condition they will try to climb out from the tank, even a flat surface.
the next day morning i found alot of dried shirmps all over the house, and some even climbs till my kitchen and the stair out the house.
so make sure you close tight your aquarium when you introducing new yamato shirmp.

Good question, I'm wondering myself, has anyone obeserved how long a yamato can live outside water before they dry up?

I saw my yamato resting on the tiger lotus leaf or the internal filter which above the water level. Around few seconds only...then they will try to wet their body by swimming few rounds and climb up to the leaf or filter again.
