KG,
I hv this algae only in my new tank or new setup. And i saw one of the member new tank with very strong flow. There are 2 power head running inside the tank. So, the limited water movement is out.

I was doing the PSB daily and feeding extra. After 2 weeks...The BGA just gone. I said this happen to new tank coz of the new tank lack of nitrate.

Check this out for more info.

So far the most effective one is using an anti-biotic, the name of which I've forgotten but it is a prescription drug an as such must be careful in administering them in the right dosage and till every single cell dies!!!!! else, we have in our hand a drug resistant bga!!!!! ............. no no no no, dont try that method, its too risky. What I would suggest is to black out your tank for 3-4 days, meaning totally black out, using paper or board to cover your tank from top to bottom, off your CO2, dont feed your fishes or shrimps. After opening up, you'll be amazed by the sudden dissapperance!!!!! There after do a frequent water change to bring back the right balance of nutrients in the tank. Sounds like a lot of work but it works.

Agreed with Kimco, this algae is not due to new tank, even an established tank can get this due to NO3 deficiency and slow water movement which is not related to new tank. Hydrogen peroxide(H2O2) can kill this algae. Black out do help to kill them too. I think the best way is to add NO3 or more fishes into the tank.

You can mix 30g of KNO3 into 1000ml water and dose the solution into your tank until you get the required NO3 in your tank.

All those that you can pick up with your hand. BGA is like jelly and need to be scoop up. Shrimps also cannot eat green spot algae and BBA (Black Brush/Antler/Staghorn).
