Btw, there is no super low maintanance and fuss free tank in planted tank world. You need to change water, feeding, trimming...etc.
Thanks for the directions. I'll definitely drop by soon to see what they have there. Have been playing with a low-tech planted tanks for about 2 years now with varying levels of success... lots of algae problems as i didn't know where to get yamato shrimps or otos and tried to save money by using DIY CO2 injection.... but i'm more enlightened now. he he.

Thanks for all your comments.. basically i was asking this because i'm setting up a tank for my younger sibling and low-maintenance is probably better as you know how kids don't really know how to take care of things.

i'll probably watch over the smaller tank but don't want to spend too much time there since my own tank is already taking up so much of my time!

For a low maintenance tank, CO2 (especially DIY CO2) and fertilisation is a definite no no cuz your plants will get all the nutrients from fish food and fish waste and from the substrate when they remineralize, adding CO2 will only disturb this balance in a LOW TECH tank. Plants are supposed to grow slow in a low tech tank. So don't add any fertiliser (make sure you have good kH and GH though) but make sure you've got a base fertiliser though in place from the start (very important). So really the best part about a low tech tank is that you don't even need to bother about CO2 and fertilisation or water change? So let it be and don't worry too much about it and enjoy nature!

UpStream,

One frank word of advise! Don't start with planted tank. If you really insist then outsource your planted tank to a guy/company to maintain for you. This way you get to have a pretty tank and you don't have to do anything except to sit down and appreciate. This is the tycoon style of planted.

Money can do wonders!!!!
