cjloong,

thanks for the info. I will definitely goto that shop n ask. You can on the FL light from 8am-11am, then on the MH from 11am-3pm, then on the FL again from 3pm-6pm. This is just like the sun shine is strong between 11am-3pm. 8am-11am it just to "wake up" the plants. 3pm-6pm..sun is going down..

You will see the different...

Another observation on fishes.

Current Lighting Regime
Light is on from 5:00 PM til 1:00 AM. Total of 8 hours for MH. Reason is because I want to view the fish when I am back home.

Observation is from 8:00 PM til light off - MH
1) Bleeding Heart hides under shadow. I tested switching off light and immediately saw them swim out and become active.
2) Boraras same but not so bad. At least they are more in the open.
3) Gold Tetra, swim about all the time.

Previous Observation is from 8:00 PM til light off - PL36X4
1) Bleeding Heart swims around at the front bottom very actively.
2) Boraras swim at the back middle very actively.
3) Gold Tetra - haven't put in yet at that time.

Possible Reason
Fish is thinking it is afternoon. Time for afternoon nap.
Light too bright and fish is afraid.
Most fish except boraras is 1 1/2 weeks old in new tank. Maybe still shy to new light and environment.

Possible Solution
Setup morning -> afternoon -> evening lighting cycle like what Dom suggested.

10000 hrs, that's gonna beat out any pl or fl in the long run.

that's 8 hrs perday and you get 3 years.

if you run it 12 hrs you get 2 years.

knock off a bit for effieciency drop... and you still get a very cheap light to run...
pl/fl's drop a lot comparatively. longest i run mine is 2 years and it's quite dim by then...

Ya. Imagine the space saving as well. However, 1 is enough ar for 3 ft?

BTW. How are you going to hang it up? My fish place(outdoor) is a mess right now, thinking on how to make it nice and neat. I have a lot of nags from "tai hou" if not done properly.

Thinking of using it for my living room 4 ft as well. However, have to figure out the aesthetic part before embarking on this upgrade(it's the living room).
