hi,
that's a lot of power...more than enough...
haven't tried 18000k's before. must be more than white. bluish?

cut back 72W watts...more forgiving unless you know exactly what you are doing.

I think you can grow the super high light plant...
Pls remember, high lighting mean high CO2 also. Don't over dose the liquid fert. Else, algae bloom easily.

that is general statement...
there's more to it than that.
algae blooms easily with high light and hi NH3/NH4[fish waste]. proved excess no3 100+ppm[your fish will be dead at this levels], excess po4 10ppm does NOT trigger algae. but high light and NH3/NH4 does. some say rotting DW will at some point trigger algae. grows on the wood only though.

FYI
no3 should be at 5-10ppm.
po4 should be 1-2 ppm [not many test kits that can measure this but if you get spot algae this means this is lacking] so keep this as your limiting factor.

concentrate on growing your plants....algae will come no matter how careful you are whether thru fish/plants/air. with high light it will just happen quickly with a mistake, forgot WC, CO2 run out, dead fish hidden under wood, overstock, rotting uneaten food...before you know it you got green water, bga, staghaorn, hair algae and bba. blablabla.

to repeat what members said. keep co2 high 20-30ppm and temp low <28c, 26c IMO is perfect. fish don't get sick easily. eg white spot.

HTH

There is an option to use all the light that is to limit full high light to only 4 hours. The rest of the hours, only 1.5 or 2 wpg. That if you have the option to split the lights into using 2 timers.

i want to know does u guy use hagen 40w power glo. before? bcos the light hav 18000k but 1000+ lumen only, so i m worry that if the lights is not enough blights fot the plants.
one thing i hav to tell u guys is...
i use 55w compact FL x 4 & 36w pll x 4 before, now i change 55w to 40w power glo. thats why i want to know more about the hagen power glo.
thanks again....

hi chris,

glad to know you know what you are doing but twice a week WC? discus tank?
i havent change water in 5 months! lazy me but algae is minimal...spot mostly.
i'm on 220W/270L

Anyway...

read this link

http://aqualinkwebforum.com/eve/ubb....2&m=6646026422

it looks like what other sites say that it's good for plants but some say it looks pink. i think maybe they are comparing it with their actinic bulbs. what is interesting is that they say the rating should only be about 8800k.

IMO what's important that it is a full spectrum bulb. tint means there's an excess of that colour coming from the bulb. remember basic RGB in equal amounts will give you white light? same applies.
of course some of these bulbs give off radiation/light which we can't see but is needed by plants eg UV. films are sensitive to capture this. eg normal flouro bulbs have a green tint that films can capture but we see as white...

since you already bought the bulbs just use it and let us know...are the plants fizzing or not.

HTH.
