Btw, thank you Ruslan. You've been of great help.
To purchase 2 ft² will be quite costly. When I purchased my riccia initially from Xian Leng, it was on a mesh that was probably about 6 in by 6 in. I can't quite remember but I think it was for about RM 7. I had a single 15 W bulb then. I did not manage to get it to pearl until I had two 36 W bulbs going...

Once riccia pearls, it will grow very fast. If you don't trim often, the bottom parts where it is attached to the mesh will not get much light and hence will disintegrate, making the riccia on top float since there is no longer anything holding it down. The parts that you trim regularly can be used to 'seed' another mesh.

Inevitably, some bits of riccia will find its way to the surface of the water. Since this is the brightest part of the tank, these riccia bits will multiply like crazy too. So, given the right conditions (mainly high light and CO2 supplementation), it is very easy to cultivate riccia.

You can browse the various types of e-Ballast available from Osram at http://www.osram.com.my

To purchase/order, you can get in touch with Originex in TTDI Jaya: http://www.originex.com.my

If you are really into it, you can get one of the dimmable ballasts and with a suitable controller, you can vary the light intensity to simulate a more natural light cycle.

Default Maintenance time again

Here's a new picture of the tank I posted before, this time of the whole tank. There's still lots to do:
  • General trimming/replanting, especially those that have grown too tall. Most are fast growing/high maintenance plants.
  • Persuade the glosso to grow horizontally. Hopefully the new bulb will do the trick.
  • Cover the top few cm of the tank to prevent the 'glare'.
  • Change the background that came with the tank (yes, it is of corals)
  • Provide better water circulation
There's not much pearling on the riccia because the picture was taken several hours after lights out.

Ah... Whole tank pic at last. Nice!!

About your glosso, I dont know why it grows that way. You do seems to have enough lights for riccia so I am not sure why it is that way. My glosso dig deep into other plants and are shaded ut they never try to grow up unless a rock is in the way. Then they grow over it.

the glosso just need a tad more light and it will flatten.

4 weeks ago my glosso was looking crap- burnt +yellow leaves from poor co2[forgot to remove top filter for a week when i went off for holiday]

so before i went to jkt two weeks ago i took out two lamps[100w of fl] and replaced it with one 70W mh...

the glosso in two weeks is now a nice fresh green carpet...quite amazing. it's growing nice and flat...in a 2ft high tank. no heat problems... it's a 70W mh + 2 big boys 2X30W fl.

saved 30W from previous setup.

Got some riccia from mikehooi..thanks.
Brought some plastic netting material from hardware shop.
Layed the riccia in the net and planted them in the tank.

50cent coin as size comparison.

Below is the final look from my tank.

However, I am not sure whether I did the right thing, as the riccia seems melting and dying..... Not sure how long shall I wait before they could grow out from the netting. and the small part always 'escape' from the net and float to the surface of the water or being sucked into the filter....

Is the net too big to caltivate riccia?
How long shall I wait before seeing them to growth?
[I have a 9W+13W PLS and injected DIY CO2 thru a powerhead filter]
[I drop few drops of FloraPride as daily fert too]
Why are they seems like melting/rotting?

Really hope they could survive and growth and finally peerling....
