Default Plant Database...

Shall we create a plant database with our own pictures?
this will be helpful to identify plants and basically an excuse to spend more time at the computer!

it will be great to do a species shot...meaning don't mix diff plants in the shot.
don't really like tropica's drawings thing...

we can start here by posting a close up and wide shot of the plant on a black bg will be great...

anybody game?

Good idea. Don't mind doing it. But paiseh lah, my plants are very basic - nothing exotic. Kenny's plants look in far better condition than mine heh heh.

It's a good idea. Had a tough time identifying plants which I had since most LFS don't label the plants. Might be tough to get a black background though so maybe PS gurus like Frankie can help out...

I totally agree that Tropica's watercolors are not much help in identifying plants.

thanks guys. do what you can. it's teamwork! Just remember to post your own pictures...we don't want to get into copyright issues.
so i'll start with some...

bolbitis mini here. some say it's Trichomanes javanicum

but me dun think so because bolibitis heudelotii's scientifis name is Gymnoperis heudelotii...the genus is not even the same!

A search of Trichomanes further disproves this, leaf shape in general is like the paku pakis some of us eat in kerabu!

anyway this is opportunity to flex your photography skills as well!
i'm just using a pocketdigicamera btw.

i'll ask admin to make this into a sticky...

This is Hottonia palustris/featherfoil from Europe, not to be confused with Hottonia inflata/American featherfoil from America

ps: i think the black bg is gonna be tricky but 45^ angle looks nicer for some plants and will concentrate more on the substrate.
