I have different kinds of algea in my tank(planted tank, relatively new, about 3 weeks)
And the biggest pain of all is... few days after a water change (tried 80%, 60%, 40%)the water gets cloudy and then turn greenish...

Green water problem eh? sigh...
Any one face this before? and ways to fight back?

Thanks
John

green water = new tank syndrome. bio filtration[BB] not efficient enough to suck up ammonia/ammonium produced.
could be too much light...[near window?]

aerate when lights off.
stuff in more plants...competitors for nh4+ and nh3
diatom filter
add PSB to speed up filter maturity
add UVS
take your pick.

hi newgen,
yes take your pick...

diatom filters are diatom filters.
it has a fine filtration media/diaphragm to filter out diatoms...
floating green and brown algae can be filtered out this way.
may take some investigating to find one near you that sells it. but this is merely a stop gap measure.

the aerating one is my recommendation...you can add some psb bacteria to speed up the process too.

stan

Thanks again Stan. Have found another timer in the house.
Have set the air pump to the below settings:
1. aerate the tank at night awhile after the lights are off.
2. aeration stop before lights are on(period about between 15-30 minutes)

Anything wrong here?
John

yup that's all good. just be wary of air stone placement. may air lock your canister.
air locked my co2 reactor and p/head. twice! duh.

Have my air-stone place at the opposite side of the powerhead so wont air lock, thanks for reminding!
But sadly, i don't have a canister filster yet, saving to get a cheap one. i heard Jebao is OK(about RM160-200)? and i saw Fluva have the 403 and 404 series selling at some shop, think price is range from about RM200-300(if not mistaken).

wonder which i should save to go for...
Thanks, will let you know if the aeration method works for me.

I also suffering brown algae ... I am using Tetra FloraPride too....
So, I am suspecting FloraPride could be the root cause ....
