ok that sounded mean but there are many types of hairy algae. fuzzy, stringy, slimy, strong long thin strands, pelt like etc. and colour... with colour can rule out a few...

IC, ok i'll stop fert as well.
as for the CO2, I need to get a tester to check it out.
Whats the recommended reading??

Stan, the hairy means hairy......like.......grass, thin, dark green.....or something colour..... some like moses type... they branched out after about a cm long....will post pic for more detail. At glass, it's brownish, around 1 to 2 cm long....and all around the tank!

You should aim for 30ppm of C02. Without testers a bit susah to know what your NPK is.

Try this: Add 1/2 capful over a week (as in 1/4 capful on WC & another 1/4 capful on 3rd day) and monitor progress of plants.

Make sure your C02 is high throughout the week. If yours is in fact hair algae, it's caused by a lack of C02 and an imbalance of nutrients (C02 & light being nutrients as well.) Manually remove the algae and/or affected leaves and maintain high C02.

A blackout will not help hair algae so no point in turning off the lights. You'll just weaken your plants in the process.

Manually take them away....hmmmmm...........
Like this need to rescape the tank again coz the overall exposed area with glosso is infected. (Even glosso caught algae attack and some leaves turning black)

Will try to do as recommended regarding the dosage.

please note if it smells or not. cruise has highlighted almost the whole range of variables.
i'd include uncycled tank, not enough plants to handle bioload. you need to pack more...

this type is better you remove the fauna and whatever uninfected plants and bleach the tank. no point. this is like BBA, a royal pita. but the beard version if i'm not mistaken...

depends on your concentration...i did a two day thing. but for your tank maybe scoop the offending rocks into a bowl-bleach that till it's all dead. and do a half hour bleach with your tank. wear gloves. and you don't have to fill the water to the top.

Some of it looks like the stuff I'm having trouble with.

Any idea how to prevent this? I mean spores could come along with the next fish you put in the tank...
