1. what is the name of the light green plant on the left on the close-up pic and where to buy 'em ? 2. I cannot decide between a ehein Pro II 2026 or 2028, my tank spec is same as yrs... Would the flow be too powerful using the 2028 instead of the 2026 ? Thanks Stanley |

Hi guys, thank you for your feedback/question, making this thread more interesting...

1. That plant is Tonina fluviatilis. Best planted on acidic substrate such as ADA Aquasoil, requires intense ligthing...tried before using Holland sand and JBL Aquabasis, some stems are growing fine, some rotting away... 2. I think either 2026 or 2028 are ok for this 4 feet tank, according to Eheim Filter Technical Data here, 2026 is for 350 liter tank, 2028 is for 600 liter tank...following that, I am using 2026...and also considering the cost too..(not only the initial cost...also maintenance cost..filter media replacement etc).. Maybe the picture below could explain better. My tank is just like stanley's tank, standard size 48in X 18in X 18in...by the way the casing width is approx 6.5 inch (including the legs), so, 2 X 6.5=13 inch, so still have approx 2.5 inch at the front and the back... ![]() Regards |

Hi,
Yeah Steven is right, the 2028 or 2028 filter throughput can be reduced by adjusting the locking lever (combi-lever) as described at Eheim website here...without negative effect (as quoted from the Eheim...) Regards |

Hi,
Since late August, this year, I have been running out of dry ferts, KH2PO4 especially. Since then too, I stopped EI dosing altogether to this tank. Kind of uncomfortable to dose one dry fert, KNO3 and not the other KH2PO4...instead I just follow what Amano do, just Brighty K (now Super K and additional K from K2SO4), Green Brighty Step 2 (half dosage) and some ECA. After almost 4 months, everything seems fine, no deficiencies, no major algae issues, in fact the overall aquarium health seems more stable now, with no accelerated plant growth etc...now I have a jungle!..lol...well this is my experience anyway…don’t stop your EI dosing because of this ..hahahaha Pick up any TFH magazine (Nature Aquarium section) or any ADA publication for that matter, all his tanks are with <1 ppm NO3 yet his tanks are in very good condition and no BGA problem?...he must be doing something right with his system/method... Some discussion on EI and ADA here and many other discussion maybe could explain it better as I quote it here.. "Plants do need elements to grow, there is no way around it. The difference is in the delivery systems. ADA uses a substrate working as a “sponge”, taking elements from water column and storing them for the plant’s roots. This process cleans the water while supplies the plant’s needs. Unfortunately, this is difficult to control, it does require water changes and the substrates don’t last for ever. EI uses rough amounts of most of the elements added to the water column and doesn’t rely on substrate in terms of some nutrients. A system that usually works with every substrate and is relatively easy to restore and modify. Unfortunately, it may create toxic concentrations and water changes are crucial." So my question is : Is EI dosing really suitable (or neccessary) for a tank with ADA substrate system (powersand, aquasoil & 5 elements) ? Regards |
