cheap one is like rm1.50 per 5kg...this one ler use during setting up...after setting cannot pakai ah.
the one i use is cheap also ..rm10 for per pack usually around 60 to 70 balls.
2 to 3 ball to a plant would be ok.

no need say soli la.......ok like this.....literite provides iron needed for plant and to help the initial nitrifying and other bacteria to get started...yes bacteria need iron too.
except for the initial iron provided, literite does NOT provide nutrients but merely acts as a medium for the transfer of nutrients to plants.
the nutrients (positive ions) are held by the negative ions found in lattice clay, where they bind together for plant roots to absorb.
other clays or substrate could perform the same binding fuction, but using literite is more sanitary by avoiding alot of organics.

Pusing kepala?..hehehe...ok ok ..i explain the ari's way
literite means red clay, the cheap one can find in nusery , the are call Hong Siew Lai ...or tanah bakar.
the commercial one usally are clay type..much cleaner and easy to use. they look like red brown colour guli.
they are good for red plants coz of the high iron contain.
come to cheras have la...rm10 onli. Vista brand.

Default Lets keep it Red.

so how red do u want your plants to be?
some folks i know would want their plants to be super red,but could that be achieved?
to be honest...i havent come to that level, i would be happy if they just remain in their natural red colouration...and that doesnt mean just plain red.
it could be yellow red, pinkish red, brownish red etc etc.
the goal is to maintain the plant colouration and for red species that a bit hard to do and if we only rely on liquid or base red fert, the result would only be for a few days and they will lose their colour, and in goes another dosage.
the pocket is really gonna hurt if we keep on doing this.

remember this ...every new shoot that red species produce will start off as red, then it gets bigger and loses its colour unless we add in iron rich ferts.

One source of good iron base fert is ADA Iron bottom. this is gonna be expensive especially in large tank. most aquarist will not be crazy enough to pay the intial high price...but if u could afford it ..why not. in the long run its gonna save alot coz u dont need to add in anymore ferts.
but the Catch is ...the intial high price.
so what about tanks thats already been setup?..do we need to tear the tank apart to include this super fert?
well...they did come up with insertion tubes ,its up to u if u really want to insert an expensive fert using a giant size FIX.

i knew ferts alone is not gonna maintain long term red colouration.so i came up with this solution..its the combination of strong and correct lightings, heavy co2 appliaction and with base and liquid ferts.
the lightings and co2 will play a big part....i mean have u ever seen those cool photos of red plants being really red?..did it cross your mind it was the lighting colour that really highlighted the plants to be so red?

as mention before shoots from red species always started off red...so the goal is to get them to produce more shoots and keep them small sized.
so how do u do that?...pump in more co2 and with heavy lightings those shoots will remain compact and short.
using the right colour combinations in your lightings will highlight the deep red colourations.
iron base and trace elements fert will help maintain the coloration. as long as the shoots doesnt grow any bigger, they will remain red in a much longer period.

a good way to try this method is by using Red Cobomba. without strong lightings, with or without strong co2 application...this species will grow fast and within a week or two they will break surface. notice the colouration..it would only be red at the bud or new shoots.,while the rest had turn green. shoots will be far between giving a long tall skinny look...truly ugly.
but in with stong and correct lightings and heavy co2 application, they will grow short bushy, shoots grows compact on a fat stem and the colouration is rosy pink red all along the shoots and stem..from top to bottom.
take a look at the photo i have posted...the red cobomba is almost 3 weeks old, and yet its less than 5 inch tall.

try it ...im sure u would like a bushy short compact red cobomba in your tank
