YES...ARGREED...the small diference in pricing is not worth the petrol...
BUT...this is not about saving a few ringgit...this is about knowing what the best equipment to buy..and getting to know the FS people.

from a mentally prepared list ...u could mark down ...wah, this fs is super expensive.....that fs is ultra lan kau si.....ah , the young attractive aunty fs owner is a widow hor...got chan la.

its actually a fun trip...even if u had more equipments then u actully need...u still will run around FS , without any particular motive but to browse...its the fever la

and what better excuse to get away from a nagging GF or WIVE than to browse the FS.

He was using 6-8 FL tubes. But the water temperature can't go down when photoperiod and he turned the air con on before the photoperiod. I told him to implement a fan or two to blow the cool air which from the air-con into the water surface. And then...yes. He got 22C most of the time.

So, unless you dont need to worry about the electricity bill. You can get an air-con + the fans. Or...implement the air-con just close to your tank and blow directly to the tank...

with all the fuss on attaching this fan or that air cond....wouldnt it be cheaper to just install a chiller....hahahahahaha

if you are someone like gg...then no point to get a chiller lar. (i hope i can hv that kind of air-con and no worry about the electric bill.)

i hv the air-con in my living room also. but then...want to reduce all the headache by topping up the water daily and the noise from the fan... so got a chiller to chill is the best idea.

yar yar ....those fan are super water suckers...need to top up the water every day or get overheated pump.....my mum was wondering how come i was carring the water bucket in and out of my room every now and then...probably thinking i was washing clothes in the bedroom...hahaha

well...for those who cant afford a chiller...could try getting a second hand one....just ask around.

Aiyah if atmospheric air around the room lower and your tank no cover, surely cooler than being outside with one fan even if got light as long as you don't have too many electric gadget inside warming up the water. Somemore.. you're cooling yourself while cooling your aquarium Kill two bird bird with one stone.

If you already got air cond in your house them use that air cond la, not saying buy a air cond just for aquarium... it's about same price as buying a first hand chiller, power consumption also not much difference. Air cond got more use right... with elec tariff going up... would be good to conserve in some ways..

Soya,
just like i said...the air-con must blow to the tank directly then only u can see the result. OR...you hv a very small room and the aquarium is inside the room. (but then you or your family members cant enjoy the air-con since u just implement inside the room for aquarium.)

if implement it in living room...you still can't get that kind of result. Temp will be still maintain at 27-29C. I believe soya not yet try....once you tried. you will knw. Like you said : if got light as long as you don't have too many electric gadget inside warming up the water. I think the lighting enough to increase the temp of water.
