Default suitable lighting

I wish to redo my lighting for my 2.5ft tank and still looking around for options. ADA is good (30W x 4) but it is kinda expensive. I am thinking of OSRAM 36W x 2 (6500K) and some other lamp. What will be the best to mix with it? If i use all 6500K, it will be very yellowish right, and good enough for the plants?

Great if can share your experience or advice.. thanks!

Hi, was using 2 x 36W Philips PLL. The colour is slightly on the yellow side, but not as yellow as my earlier FL. 6500K good for plants - algae also. Browse through Ari's thread under Aquatic Plants section as he has shed some light (pardon the pun) on PLLs and tanks shorter than 2 feet. I have angled my single PLL away and now only the back portion of the tank get full blast of light. And only that section has algae growth. Otherwise, due to the intensity of the PLL, the front of the tank still has reasonable plant growth. But no pearling like the back of the tank.

ok la ok la taikor....your 2.5 feet rite ...what height?
if its 18 inches...then..u want to plant wat?

if plant moss or fern ...then skip PLL ....unless mau tanam algae.
use 2800K 20w x 1, 6800K 20w x1, 18000K 20w x 1
cukup liao...

if for high lighting plants..add in another 6800K.

PLL is only for tanks with height of 2 feet and above.
but if u insist...then get 2 twin PLL...one wont be enough to light up the whole 2.5 feet...since they have narrow arce...like shinning dowards in a straight line.
For PLL u dont have much choice in Ks...only in the 6 to 8000k range. for better result add in some other spectrum like 2800k or 18000k.

but at 2.5 feet ...your tank can take it or not?????

Osram or philips sama2 la...

Ari taikoh, if given a choice for a 3 feet tank, would you prefer to use PLLs or FLs? Would I have more problems using PLL on a 3 feet tank (2 feet height) like I did with my current 2 feet tank?

But before you answer, I have a feeling you'd go for FLs since you always seem to use such a terror range of Ks. Correct or not?
