Hello,
I was wondering how I should go about transferring my freshwater plants from it's original tank to a new bigger tank. The java fern that I got from Hemiolopterus (thanks Hemio Can I directly get it out from the original tank to the bigger tank or is do I need to add the water from the original tank? There is also a plant that is quite prone to rotting (I have yet to identify it). One more thing, how do I go about doing water changes for tanks with plants? Will 50% a week be too much for the plant? I will also be adding 8 weeks old guppies in this tank. Any suggestions and advice will be greatly appreciated!

I assume that the bigger tank is a totally new one. Plants are not as sensitive as fishes so it should not be any problem moving them to a new tank with new water but how bout the fishes you are going to transfer to the new tank? They needs the original water from the tank. It is safer to use 50% of the old tank water. Certain plants like crypts will melt if moved to a new environment. Your plant rot maybe because the bottom part of the plant did not receive any light... or if the whole plant rot it means it is not a true aquatic plant or your light is not strong enough. Quote:

Freakmaster,
Ensure that your new tank is fully cycled before adding any fish. Guppies are hardy, but not THAT hardy. Zebra danios are ideal for cycling but I don't believe too much in using fish for cycling. Alternatively, you can use ammonia to begin the cycle. Using gravel and water from an established tank can also be used. ps: I notice you're from Kuching too. |

Hello Virce,
I currently have four tanks which are homes to flowerhorns, bloodparrots, guppies, golden algae eaters and a couple of ghost shrimps. Planning to get 4' tank(s) soon. Been meaning to keep discus for so long, but I have yet to find an LFS offering high quality discus. Do you by any chance know of any LFS selling good quality discus??? I am also in the process of setting up a proper planted tank. Recently acquired aquatic plants from Joo. Well, you know how limited choices are in Kuching. So what about you? Are you into planted tanks as well???
