How many Yamatoes in you tank?
Curious to know how many Yamatoes do you keep in your tank. Please mention your tank size and whether it is a high light or low light setup... Surely adding too many yamatoes will have destructive consequences right? But what is that danger number?
Currently I have a 4ft tank and only keeping 3 XL sized Yamatoes...thinking of adding more but not sure how much more...my bioload is medium...

Had around 15 of them at one time. No fuss. They keep out of everyone's way. But XL sized ones tend to be a bit lazy and munch less on algae.
Tank is 57 litres, 2-footer, high light, bio-load on the higher side.

Depends on what algae you want to control and heavy planted? If you have some BBA and thread algae. Then min 20 pieces needed for 4ft tank.

I have in the past put in 20 pcs(for 4 feet tank), you might not end up with 20 because some of them might crawl out. They have a tendency to crawl out when it's adjusting from another tank.
Try not to go above 20 because they are very destructive, and especially when u have smaller shrimps or fishes. I would reckon that if you can, try with 10 pcs first and if not enough, slowly add.

i used to have 5 yamato shrimp to as high as 50pcs ...
what i notice, whatever algae u have, if u have moss, they will eat your moss... maybe its just me... but i always try to get small yamatos.. as small as i can find.... because the big ones will pinch my hand/skin when i dip my hand inside the tank... and its quite painful... yamato is also your best bet to combat algae... imo

I used to have 20 pcs in my 4ft tank 2 years ago. Now left about 7-10. They are really monster shrimp now, bigger than most of the fish in the tank. Though they are quite ok with the fish, maybe used to the fish since they were young.
I find that they do not take algae anymore reaching this size. Also always bully smaller shrimp if you put in new one. None of my new bought smaller yamato survive! Yeoh
