I've recently noticed that there's been some kind of a spiky plant growing in one of my aquarium...it doesn't look like algae to me. The size is very small, about 2mm and it has spiky hair all over (I would have mistaken it for a porcupine if it was bigger

Erm, also the colour of the 'plant' is green...thought it might be helpful...

It's called hairy algae.... In excessive amounts, can be a problem in planted tanks. Apparently some ppl have attributed the cause to high level of phosphates. Siamese Algae eater (siamese flying fox) will help keep this algae in check.
