I've recently noticed that there's been some kind of a spiky plant growing in one of my aquarium...it doesn't look like algae to me. The size is very small, about 2mm and it has spiky hair all over (I would have mistaken it for a porcupine if it was bigger ). This 'plant' has been growing on some of the older leaves of my plants and also on the sides of the aquarium. What is it and how do I get rid of it???

It's called hairy algae.... In excessive amounts, can be a problem in planted tanks. Apparently some ppl have attributed the cause to high level of phosphates. Siamese Algae eater (siamese flying fox) will help keep this algae in check.
