Default Light for standard 2.5ft tank?

How much light do you use for your 2.5ft tank? I've been using two 36W PL all this while but I've been constantly plagued by algae. Recently I dropped the lights to ONE 36W PL while I was getting my C02 tank refilled. And all my algae problems disappeared! Granted, growth was slower but I'm willing to live with that. Now that I've got my C02 tank back, I'm thinking of just keeping the one light and adding the C02.

How much light do you guys have over your 2.5ft tanks?

If I am not mistaken, 2ft tank requires 70~80W

Wow. That's a lot of light! I'm going to experiment with one 36W PL-L and C02 and see if I can solve a lot of my problems.

Now a days I don't really bother about the algae, as long as the correct amount of light & CO2 will be fine. And try to keep some black molly, shrimps & Otocinclus to handle the algae. Don't look algae is a serious problems. Better keep an eyes on your plants.

erm...
does Molly eat shrimps or small fishes?
I'm having a 2.5feet tank too. Running with a 1.5L bottle of DIY CO2 and 2 36w PLL light with reflector, and a HOB filter.

It's a shrimp tank, consider half tank planted.

The bad thing is, fine green hairy algea growing within the bunch of moss and spearding to other plants too.

But fortunately all plants growing well.

The algae stick around the plants are a norm. As I said before, keep more shrimp and black molly. The black molly weren't eat shrimps.
