hi all,

I now maintaining a 3ft planted tank but feel it is too small for me. Plan to setup a 4ft...can i know where can get a nice deal for following items:

1. New 4ft tank
2. planted tank light casing(how many tubes i need for 4ft tank)
3. Wooden cabinet.(black color if possible)
4. Dennerle mix 200

If can pls provide me with the price for each of the item above. Thx

Small tank has small tank fun, big tank has big tank fun..... The setup cost varies depands on your tank size, the equipement, substrate etc can can be from less than a hundred(entry level + DIY stuffs) to few thousand(all automatic and changgih stuffs)....

To start off with, I guess a 2feeter will be best. Once you get use to the skill, then you can upgrade to biger tank and more sophiscated stuffs...
LFS(Local Fish Shop) will be the best place to start off with to get your needed equipments, if you don't have any other means of getting those stuff. DIY also a good idea as part of this plant tank hobby.

For planted tank, beside the tank, light, substrate, you also need CO2 set(tank or DIY), filter and other accessories(eg fert-later on, driftwood/stone-for scaping your planted tank-aquascaping, termometer-to monitor the temp and etc).

its gonna be pretty expensive for the stuff u ask for...especially the cabinet and the light casing. these two item alone is enough to put most planters off.
a complete 4x2x2 tank with cabinet and light casing is gonna cost around rm1500 to 2,000, depending on the quality, glass thickness and the amount of light casing u want.

i guess the cheaper way is DIY...i cant help u with the cabinet..hehehe, but u could save a lot on light casing, if u DIY
in a 4 footer u need minium 4 casing.
for the tank ..if u choose a 4x1.5x1.5..try to get one with 6mm glass. it would be abit more expensive...roughly rm30 more then the usual 5mm rm70 4 footers u in find in LFS.

DIY is a great way to learn about the equipments u are using. i did my 4x2.5x2 feet setup for less then rm800, complete with 13 PLL, T4 and Flo lamp in 6 diy casing.

1) & 3)4ft tank. What size you want? 4x2x2ft? 4x1.5x1.5ft?4x2.5x2.5ft? If 4x1.5x1.5ft with cabinet is around RM600-700. I believe the tank maker in Setapak got better offer.
2) 4ft lighting casing which 3ft double tubes is around RM150-180 per set. The amount of lighting is depends on what plants you want to keep? If stem plants, of coz you need higher lighting. If you want to keep glosso, recommend to get PLL tubes casing. If just low maintenance plants, 2-4 tubes will do.
4) Dennerle 200 mix. Bigger box is RM196.
