This picture does look more like it, but the leaves are darker color in tone (could be lack of Co2 or light). Does your plants roofs growing out of the stems a bit ? Mine does

Yes, a lots of roots growing out of the stems ... and the plant will grow tall and tall...

I think, my tank is lack of some element so causing the plant have white crack on it.

Hi,

Yup, the plant is Lobelia Cardinalis indeed. As quoted from the Plant Finder at APC : It tends to produce many white roots at the nodes, which will have to be concealed with careful pruning. Pruning should be done by topping and replanting the tops. At one time I let it grew tall, with a lot of white root at the nodes (same as taipan's, see mine here and here), but then I keep trimming it, now the plant producing a lot of sideshoots and more compact...it will grow tall if you let it..

Since this plant have quite intensive root system, some root tab will surely help...and intense ligthing makes this plant grow more compact between nodes, IME...

Maybe it is still in emersed form (well maybe semi..hehe)..that is why some lower leaves are darker...how long since you planted it?..

Regards

Some update.

I have reposition some of the plants. Changed water twice (1/3) within a week, but will do this once a week later. Put in Dennerle E15 tablets (1 tablet/month) & 15 drops/every 2 days of PDMM.

I have also turned on my air pump during nite time for what you guys refer to as "airetion"

Lighting 60w to 80w turned on for 8.5 hrs/ with a fan turned on at interval (by timer).

My water quality has improved, not so green and no sign of any white aglae on the sands so far.

So far my plants seem to be growing quite well, see a bit here and there new green leaves....but certain plants... its leaves are also turning brown to black sort of color. What does that mean ?

I have also added a few batches of fishes. Now my 3ft tank has the following :

5 Oto AE
3 SAE
6 Cherry Shrimp
8 Yamato Shrimp
3 Tiger & 3 Bee Shrimp

6 Neon Tetras
6 Green Tetras
6 Gold Tetras
2 Rainbow fish (forgot the full name)

Is this too many fishes ???

Do you think I can get another 6 more Neon Tetras (they look good) and 6 Zebra Danio

Comments appreciated.

Dear Natfish,

I have the same plant, but seen lots of dark green spot on the leaves. Any idea whether those are algae or the leave normally looks like that? The picture you post from below link also have green spot on leaves.

I have cut a few but they come back.

Maybe due to lack of macro nutrients, Nitrates, Phosphate & Potassium, the NPK. Have to verify your PMDD contents..up a bit CO2 too..

Yes, I think so. Go slow. You can read more about it here or use a very cool stoking density calculator, under the tool menu, at the same website..have to register for free first though...but basically 1 inch for 4.5 liters...1 inch of adult size fish...

I am not sure whether it is ok but this thread started by Kevin, you should start your own thread on the algae...if it is ok, Kevin..I will make it short..lol

ykit, it is Green Spot Algae, GSA. Normally because of CO2 and Phosphate (PO4) levels are low. In my case, PO4. I ran out of PO4 source, KH2PO4. Once got it, remove affected leaves as much as you can. If you have it on the leaves, most probably you will have it on the glass too. Scrap manually off the glass. Then dose PO4, up CO2..ykit, without knowing your tank conditions I can only guest... in short, CO2 ok? fert ok?.., if can't up CO2, lower the light (off one tube etc)...if can't dose fert, lower the light too..

Regards
