Default idiot's guide to plants

I haven't had a tank is quite some time. I just set up a new tank, 30 gal. I have fresh water with the chlorine treatment, standard gravel, filter.

It has been running for 2 weeks now, no fish, no plants, nothing, just a plain tank. I am still thinking what I want to do with it. I am thinking about going with live plants.

I had some live plants years ago, but my Oscar always atge them. I am probably going with community fish.

Is there a moron's guide to plants? I took a quick look through the forum and didn't see any starter information.

I want something easy to deal with and maintain.

I have a light, not sure if I need something special, the heater is set and the water has been a steady 80 degrees.

Any tips?

Well you can go to ADA website to read a downloadable layout manual to begin with to understand a bit on planted tank

Aqua Design Amano Co., Ltd (ADA)| Nature Aquarium

you need to be specific on your tank equipment in order for us to help you out more

After reasding some of that, I think the live plants are simply not what I am looking for. I like the idea, but I can't really afford the time to set something like that up and then maintain it.

I was thinking there was some plants that will just grow no matter the set up.

As a matter of fact there is some plants which required little maintenance like fern and moss.

For starter which I did few years back, I started it out with driftwood and java moss tying around it. Maintain the water temperature using a DIY Fan (basically the fan is on 24 hour), providing CO2 using via DIY as well (just started so I don't have enough saving to get a CO2 cylinder and regulator) and adequate lighting (use a timer and set it to max 8 hour) to let it grow. Withing 1 month, you can see the result. During that 1 month period, all I did was top up the water every 2 ~3 days depending how much water was aerated and add liquid fertilizer every 2 days (3x a week).

So basically very little maintenance is it?? Hope you have fun
