Yeah saw mini riccia at 88 Pandan Indah sold for RM30 last week..but the plant was disintegrating... Hey... Dom any update on BB18??

Regarding the reactor, Roadspike... is it the 402 version?? I should have gone for 403 because the 402 didnt dissolve the Co2 completely in the reactor...
Ended up stuffing sponge to minize flow rate while maintaining the pressure within!!!

ya...mini riccia selling in 88 quite exp. saw in SG selling S$5 1 handful.

BB18, i just went last 2 weeks. got no new plants. ask ah ling, she smile to me and find out from the boss, the boss said no business and wait for a while first.
saw an apisto inside the show tank. asking for a price. boss refuse to sell. But found he relocated all the tanks. just like AI... Lot of fishes selling cheap too. good place to hunt for fishes.

heard there is a new shop open 6 months ago. the shop only with planted and marine. very powrful one... in kepong. but personally i m not yet go n find out.

I didnt use any CO2 reactor or refusser. I am using the hang on type filter. And i connected the CO2 hose into the pipe...and the CO2 will going thru the filter and follow the water flow....

and found most of my plants burbling....

cjming, yeah im using the 402 also. i get what u mean, co2 gas escape from the reactor when there is too much gas in it. i think 88 marine in ss15 is a good place to hunt for more exotic plants.

Thanks Roadspike...I saw a few Toninas in 88 P.Indah as well..
Stan ...88 marine near Taylor' College..Subang Med. Centre
...turn in at ss15/4e when u see a Shell station at the corner as u travel along Jalan Jengka...if not mistaken!!

Hey guys...I need your help really bad!!
Recently found out the my lighting installed is totally insufficient. Estimated was 400W , actual output approx below 300W...go figure.!!
The stem plants seem to be OK..but glosso and java moss aint thriving. Two major problems...temp fluctuates between 29-27C and light unable to penetrate to full depth.
(One word of advice based on my experience, never buy regular lighting system made in China for your planted tank because the output wattage never met what they have claimed and short life cycle.)

I need inputs on water cooling and what type of lighting could I cram into the hood to add the extra umpphh! Now got 3 light strips with 6 tubes...!!
Need one more ..hmmm.. MH bulb??Thanks

Robby

hi stan, subang 88 marine is at the same row of EON bank(if im not mistaken, EON bank is at the corner shop). u know where is baru karang? the famous lfs selling marine stocks. is just few block away. or do u know gazebo? if u see gazebo( hawker centre like ming tein, 88 is just opposite it)

cj, if u wan intensity in lighting, u better go for PL lighting. PL lighting is so much more efficient then FL tubes and their intensity is much more brighter then FL. but the onli flaw PL lighting has is they are shorter then FL, in other words they dun distribute the lighting as good as FL. if ur using FL tubes, i personally recommend u to use AZOO tubes as im using it myself (i find it is brighter then other brands). my lighting specs are 2 x 20watt FL, 1 x 36watt PL for a 2 1/2f length, 2f height tank. i guess is sufficient coz glosso is covering the foreground soon n riccia is bubbling.

One more thing, from what i see my java moss aint thriving as well but they dun die off either although my lighting is sufficient. from what i know java moss or any other moss that matters, need lower temperatues to grow. my current tank temp should be around 29 to 30, im planning to add a cooling fan soon to bring down the temp to 26 to 27. i'll let u know if the cooling fan has effect on the moss.

Yes. Try to get UV protection PL lights. It cost about RM36-40 each. If your tank is 4ft. Then you need to get 4 PL tubes...it is around RM160.

For FL light tube, you need to change it every 3 months. coz it will get darker n darker.... i watch the Azoo planted tank VCD. They recommended that.

I am using a normal FL light tube which is 6900K. 3 of them for my 4ft tank. I know it is not enough. But the plants growing very well.

Thanks for the input guys, fyi I have a 1yo 10 gallon tank planted with Riccia and Java Moss and they just thriving!! The temp is around 26C with a DC fan and 3x11W PL light w/o base subt except clay balls.

I found out one way to cut corner on lighting to promote plants growth.
Previously I only use 2x11W PL on my 10 gall, Riccia was doin ok but not very vigorous..later installed a 11W PL table lamp positioned OUTSIDE tilt at 45 deg facing the front of the tank (fish seems ok with it!!).
Results...higher intensity without introducing extra heat and the plants just LOVING IT..even with very low Co2 concentration...
But it's a different story when it comes to 120gallon..tough job man,i have to use several chairs just to work around my tank..(3ft tall cabinet)!!

The reason I chose FL over PL was due to it's popularity and cost. If I were to install PL lamps, I'll need about 10 tubes for optimum
light...very expensive lar b'cos im cheapskate..hhehhe !!!

So far found one solution for higher light concentration, install
one 20W enegry saving bulb on to the T-4 lighting strip and hopefully it'll improve.
I went to Aqua Marine Fresh last week.. and the lady boss told me nothing beats Arcadia lamps even Azoo dont stand a chance wor...Anyone try this brand before??

I have an idea about building a MH light strip after I stumble across a MH bulb at the elec shop sold for RM80...wonder would it be practical design:
1x150 W Double-end MH bulb
1x Reflector RM19
2x 20PL Bulb =RM50
2x DC Fans

Any feedback!!!

wah so powerful lighting system. even dead n rotting plants plants will start bubbling. i have no experience with MH lights, onli been working on PL n FL lights onli. by the way, how the 2 DC fan will bring down the water temp? i thought it should be blowing on the water instead of air around the lights. since temp is a issue for u, thought of installing a chiller like those in marine tanks for ur tank? i guess for ur 4f tank, installing as many of this DC fans wun help much. in my own opinion DC fans are onli for 60 gallons n below. correct me if im wrong.

hehe havent try arcadia before coz it is so damn expensive. one tube of 20watt cost about 30 to 40 bucks. AZOO onli 18 bucks.

btw cj, do u use any co2 system for ur 10g tank?
