The DC fans arent for water cooling..they are dedicated to MH ventilation.
Somewhere I saw a post about utilizing 6 AC fans for reducing temp from 30-26C for a 4ft tank...great but wonder how to dampen the noise though..??
Of course I would love to install a chiller....but money is an issue for me...so far I know the cheapest is around $1K+ ..ouch!!!
Frankly speaking..Im kinda tired of making adjustment with my tank cause it's becoming a tedious work..(it used to be enjoyable).
Everyday cameback from work ...spend atleast 3-4 hours tweaking the tank... very sian liow.If given another chance, I would rather fork out 5K and buy whatever I like..hehehe dream on!!!

Yesterday tried the extra 20W(=90W) Spiral Type Bulb...boy it doesnt help much... I dont get it why some hobbyist produce great results with 8x36W FL for 4x2x2ft tank but mine look very gloomy even with 7 tubes at 300W o/p. I learnt that the water surface reduces light intensity from 40-70%...but what to do??
By the way, does anyone know what spectrum does "Resun" FL lamp emits...seems weird my Rotala walichii love it but some others reacted differently...!!?? Java fern also showing "burnt" marks around the leaves... I cant tell whether it's nutrients deficiency!!
I spent some much time fine tuning the equipment that my 'scape looked like abandoned construction site lar ...

Roadspike.., I used my own DIY reactor with a 1.5L soda bottle on the 10 gallon. The reactor resembles the 402 reactor concept but it made out of parts from siphon hose, a mini pump and bio ball.
Simple but better than Nutrafin cos now I only change my CO2 solution about a month or so.

Hey Roadspike, do you mind if I find a day to checkout your tank.. since yours are doin so well..??By the way, what happen to Stan..
long time no hear his story liow..what's ur update Stan???
ok Im done ..thanks

Robby

hahaha...i am just like you. spent 3-4 hours on the tank or DIY projects after work. Till my friend said ppl pay more attention on your contruction work on yr tank rather than the plants n fishes inside the tank.

was thinking of just get a 4ft lighting set which cost RM400+ with 4 pieces of PL light tube. I think it is enough for 4x1.5x1.5 tank. But after spent $$$ on a 5L CO2 cylinder. giving up to get any lighting set. But still interested in DIY...
My friend's tank is 4x2x2 and he is using 2 sets of this PL lighting set + 2 PL light tubes set. All the plants burble like crazy...

was read some DIY lighting, CO2 and fan projects from Taiwan forum. They are using T5 7000K FL light tube. Instead of the PL light tube. Can be said their DIY design better.

opps, i have no idea wat's MH lighting system is about. har? chiller cost about 1k? i thought is only about 300 to 400 bucks =p hehe i get what u mean, since i started the tank(1 month plus), i already replant everything for 2 times and minor tweaking here and there countless of times n not to mention throwing away extra plants due to bad planning. Getting tired of it already. i guess i made my final adjustment today, just let the plants grow peacefully from now.

ur DIY co2 solution can last for about a month? mine onli can last for 5 days the most, after that the solution doesnt make anymore co2.

problems started cropping out since last week, algae! hairy algae starting growing everywhere - aquarium glass, on the plants n even on the gravel! i read from other forums, algae growing are due to nutrients deficiency. how true is that?

Algae bloom caused by nutrients deficiency??Seems like you plants suffered nutrients deficiency hence stunted growth... which enable algae to out compete the plants easily....correct ar??

Why your C02 only last 5 days???...Maybe u need to adjust ratio of sugar
with the yeast mixture!!
My yeast solution dont actually "last" for a month..because my DIY reactor (bulkhead of siphon tube)takes very long to dissolved the gas all I need to do is maintain 1/3 of the "capsule" fill with C02 gas(no bubble counting here). So one shot of C02 last about 2-3hours...My idea came from this..but only good for 10gallon below!!The bottom sponge i replaced with a bio ball stuffed to the end of the siphon bulkhead ...!!ok

Hey Dom, here are some more ideas for a very good intensity lighting
for ppl on a shoestring budget...like me!!! The bulbs are very common and easily available at any Electrical shops!!

From my observation on my tank lighting..I ve found out that the spiral type bulb is actually 20% brighter than the 20W T-4 Tri phosphor yet it cost RM7 less.
Advantages:
1. No ballast required, direct 240V AC
2. One Spiral bulb cost RM18 for 20W=90W output (80% Energy save)!!So 6x90W=540W..in reality maybe 400W.. !!!

Here's a breakdown:-
RM108 for 6 bulbs + RM20 reflector + misc = RM150..

400W for RM150..not bad eh!!If I didnt buy the T-4s I would definitely go
for this design..it's foolproof..!!
U can also go for four-tubing PL bulb setup..not double-tubing ones because regular double tubes can go up to 11W only unless you wanna get the 40W PL tubes...worth a try!!

ya lor, my diy co2 onli last for 5 days. if u notice the co2 reactor we r using now, the presure from the pump is actually presuring the co2 gas back in into the bottle. u maybe wun notice it coz ur using presurized co2 system. that is why i think my diy co2 onli last for 5 days coz after the 5th day the presure from the yeast start to decrease.

the hairy algae im not sure lar. even my yamato shrimps kennot clean everything oredi. hairy algae is everywhere. getting the magnet cleaner soon. magnet thing stuck between ur aquarium glass that cleaner thingy.

hey nice pic, actually im more interested at the brown plant behind ur diy reactor. wat type of plant is that. nice. oh yea, i just got my digi cam, lemme post some pics here.

Robby,
I'm busy with work and my condo renovation works.. hope I still have enough money to buy the tank...

What is your current light rating now ? You have 7 4' tubes and still not bright enough ?? Could it be other factors like trace element. fertilizer and KH / Ph level ??

You are using 2 light reflector and fit them with all the 7 tubes inside it ??

I kinda think the spiral energy saving light is a pretty good idea... shorter length and brighter... so you went out and buy all the electrical plugs and mount them onto the light reflector ??

Robby,

I think it is still rated as 6 X 20 = 120W only because our reference point is to FL ( also energy saving ) and not incadescent bulb.

Most of the Watt pe gallons requirements are reference to FL lightning and not normal bulb...

So I guess your lightning system might not be enough for your tank..

So what is the current rating of your tank right now ??

Stan
