Whoaa Dom..hold your horses!!We have to make sure every parts required are available.
Next step would be placement of the component and adjust the reflector to accomodate the PL tubes...
Im still looking for the eballast like ones Roadspike is using!! I do know some shops in Pasar Road are selling eballast but not as nice as Roadspike's in term of packaging..hehehe..price ok but have recall
which shop that was selling it.!!

Here 's a breakdown of what u need:
4x PL light tubes
4x e-ballast
8x PL holder bracket
PL Pin socket / 15Amp connector will also fit
Wires, nuts & bolts..rivets...bla bla

Would you like to have a DC fan to go with it???
heheh

heheeh...i dont hv any of them yet. But you hv the PL light tubes right. Then we can go for shopping...

The eballast can be found...heard friend said the shop same row with RHB bank in jln pasar. but opposite the petrol station selling cheap. We gonna try our luck there.

All the things are cheap. except the light tubes, eballash and reflector... :P

Fan fitting on the reflector like you u told m4 before? but is there any free space after you put the lighting set (if we success on it.) on the tank?

Check it DIY fan on the tank. the owner use the glass or partition holder to tight the fan on it...

Yeah I saw those "fan bracket" in Pudu Aquarium before..the lady boss gave me for free after I bought the Resun light..unfortunately they are not wide enough for my 10mm glass ..anyway this is my simple design of holding the fans in place..(those are stainless steel rod..very rigid!)
It's better u place them in the reflector...should the air suck in or blow out
of the reflector huh???

coz i m using 3 pieces of 4ft single light tube reflector and put it on my tank. and look ugly....light rating is not enough for my tank. And i am looking forward to other ppl DIY lighting set ideas and will make one. Btw, how much u bought the PL light tube which is the light tube in the middle one?

Pls...share with me.

Cjming, saw roadspike lighting set? My idea to hv the lighting set almost same with roadspike, but using water proof wooden material. And it cost me a bom when i got the quotation from the supplier.
You can use the same holder for the lights for your tank. But replace the FL light tubes with PL light tubes....

About the riccia, I was using the hard quality plastic net for the bottom part, and put the riccia on it. then using the fine net to cover on the riccia. tight the fine net with plastic net. then put on the gravel. use the gravel to cover side of the 4 angles. so that, the net with riccia will stay on the gravel. and when it grow...it look more natural.
High level of amonia and nitrate will kill the riccia. So, must pratice the weekly water change...

err u cant see my website? then how manage to see the lighting set? sorry a bit blur oredi. anyway, about my lighting system i did it all by myself. how much does the whole thing cost? here is a breakdown of it

E-ballast ~ 3 x RM 16 = RM 48
Reflector ~ 1 x RM 25 = RM 25
FL AZOO 20watt Tube ~ 2 x RM 20(if im not mistaken) = RM 40
PL Osram 36watt ~ RM 35(cant remember clearly) = RM 35
Screws, Tube Holder = RM 3

The total amount would be around = RM 150

actually the reflector is a single 4f reflector. since my tank is 2 1/2f, i just cut it into half n joined them together side by side n screw them together. that's how i got a reflector that fits my tank nicely. by the way, u can easily cut the aluminium reflector using a normal blade.

wahh u guys are really game for it man. 6 PL tube?? any plants would be happy growing under it. i already inform cj where i got my PL tube n e-ballast, hope the lfs still have stocks since 36watt PL is quite hard to get. the e-ballast im using is quite common as i seen it in couple of place which one of them is in pasar road(the one selling JLB fert). PL holder bracket u can get it from 88 SJ for 50cent each.

err cj, wat's the PL Pin socket / 15Amp connector for? i havent use them in my lighting system. the wires come together with the e-ballast i bought, so no hassle connecting the wires n the good thing about it is they have a on/off switch too. nuts n bolts can easily get them from hardware store. hope my info helps. cheers =)

Aiyahh..Roadspike me no receive message lehh!!!Send me again!!
PLez plez...
The PL pin socket/clips is for e-ballast w/o wiring ones..but luckily I found those complete eballast with wires and socket together. Aiya u should have told me earlier about the PL clip..i go and buy the
heavy duty type holder(RM1/pc) it was real pain tried to readjust it.
Ok here are the stuff I have bought!!

E-ballast =RM 12.5
Double Tube Reflector = RM 18
Philips PL-L 36W/84-PL = RM RM20

Frankly speaking, the PL lighting system was the simplest design i have ever done..I finished building the whole set about 1+hr...
I took some photos included with some descriptions...hope it'll helps:

Robby,

You are so expert in making and designing DIY lightning...

I used to make DIY wireless lan antennas like cantenna and yagi but never tried to DIY any lightning systems...

The e-ballast wiring are quite near...

If I need them, I will "order" from you.. I am sure a lot of non DIY hobbyist would feel the same...

Ever think of using those large aircon pipe casing to make the light casing ?

Stan

Mamak...teh tarik ...aiya wait lar..
Firstly..Many thanks to Dom....you were right about the acidic rain.I have never experience such extreme water condition in my small fish pond. I ve been keeping it for 2 years without any problem but just recently the fishes began to develop mucus or peeling on their skins.
I was so stoopid for not taking pH reading as I tot it was some sort of
ulcer or viral infection .Guess what.... pH reading(range 1-9) was below 5 the least, (I lost the pH chart..but the color on test tube was deep red) Luckily I shifted large number of fishes to my dad's koi pond 2 weeks ago.
Lost 2, left 4....fortunately my Feather Fins didnt show any sign of stress at all. OK ..Sorry for telling something off topic!!

Ok anyway...back to planted world, I have updated my website with a few
of xtras photos.

http://www.geocities.com/cjm88/diypl.html
By the way, Dom and Stan...u guys definitely need a wooden hood for support because my reflector with only 4 PLs and eballasts also bit wobbly eventhough it's very sturdy.Luckily the reflectors I ve recently bought are bit thicker. U will also need fans..fans..fans..either AC/DC , however if it runs 24/7 must be AC!!

So now...go find a 3" fans ...and pl clips.. guess maybe have to go 88..
I know one place sell plastic type..but I dun think it's good!ok
Also buy few 2x4 wooden plank plus a few 1"x1" square 10ft wood stick if u planned to DIY your hood..dont wolly I got the power tools and alot of lovely wood finishing...ok if u can givme the dimensions and maybe I can help figure out how to construct one nice solid hood .... hehe!!
It's goin to be a great funnnn!! :P
Alright then ...Cheerss
