hai,roadspike,
here are my some enruiries: hope you can help me to solve it. thx. 1.i DIYing a 1.5 Litre CO2 following the the instructions that you hav posted in this topic before, but my system only can stand 4 2 days.wat is the problems?? 2.Produced CO2 should be injected into the tank to let it dissolve in the water.but u suggest to build a bubble counter before the reactor, and let the bubbles go into the the water in bubble counter.by doing this, produced CO2 should dissolve in the water in bubble counter. how teh gas can dissolve inthe water in the tank????? at last, i mostly appreciate your kindness because spend time to solve my problems. THX veri veri veri veri veri veri much |

Try to use less yeast if yr DIY CO2 finished too fast... last time my CO2 system lasts like 2-3 weeks... If your DIY CO2 last 1 week or less, it would be too much hassle to mix the solution every week!!!! Try to use baking soda so that the yeast will survive longer in the solution... Try to shake it at first if CO2 does not produce... if it produce bubbles... you are using too much yeast... The bubble counter is to prevent yr yeast solution from getting into your tank... I do not think yr fishes or plants likes sugar water CO2 do not really dissovled in the bubble counter... it is just a counter to tell you how much CO2 is released by your DIY CO2... as we cannot "see" CO2 gasses The one way valve is to prevent yr tank water from entering the yeast solution... If you use those CO2 reactor with bio balls , if the bioballs don't spin b'cos of too much CO2, try using 1 ball less so that you can see the bioballs is spinning while mixing your CO2 into the water.. Hope this helps Stan |

Use as much sugar as your volume of water can dissolve. So hot water is a must. Shake the sugar solution until all sugar has dissolved and add in CaCO3 or NaCO3 (1 tsp).
Remember to fill the water up to 90%, not 3/4. Less air on top means higher pressure since air is more compressable than liquid. If you worry the mixture will get into tank, use a bubble counter. If you don't want tank water siphoning into the bottle, use a check valve. Cool the hot mixture until it's comfortable enough to hold with hands. If you can stand it, yeast can. Using hot solution accelerates the chemical reactions and you get bubbling faster (less than 2 hours). Use 1 tps of yeast, shake well to let the yeast work well into a nice suspension. Since you provided a very saturated sugar solution for the yeast, it'll last longer. Then adjust the amount of yeast to control speed of bubbling. Of course, more bubbles = don't last as long |
