Basically alot of people think it is cruel to keep betta in vases. But, I keep my betta in a vase that holds 1 gallon of water, and a plastic plant. He is absolutely thriving, and is much, much bigger than when I got him just 4-5 months ago. He loves his vase. As long as it is clean. My betta's don't like them betta bites though. The little black pellet things. My betta's love blood worms. (freeze dried mosquito larva.) I watch what they eat, and take out what they don't within half an hour. Otherwise the water does become cloudy. You shouldn't have alage in the vase though. I would get rid of the peace lily. Plant it in a pot of dirt. Be sure to change the water at least once a week. I love bowl buddies for betta and goldfish. Since I have been using them, my fish are doing great. Bowl buddies are to remove any chlorine, chemicals from water. They also have medicine and slime coat added to them. Quick dislove. Be sure to remove your fish from vase before adding bowl buddies. Fill vase with water, add bowl buddy, and wait for it to dislove. Give the water a quick swirl with fish net to make sure all the bowl buddy is evenly distributed. Then put your betta back in. Add a bowl buddy at every weekly change, remove uneaten food, and your betta will be happy. I also have two others in a 1 gallon bowl and a half gallon bowl. They are both very friendly betta, and will even sit still while you stroke there backs with your finger. I love betta, and you can keep them healthy and happy in a vase.

uneaten food can go rotten and can poison the water. in an unfiltered system, this is really dangerous. that's why whenever someone comes back to blame me for their betta's death, it turns out the problem was sunken uneaten food. every time.

I've found bettas survive fine in a vase as long as frequent partial water changes are made, and the room temperature is maintained. my bettas thrive with blood worms, but all excess must be removed... a heater is also appreciated to maintain current temperature, ensuring a happy betta! good luck with these funky little fishies!

i used to keep a beta in a jar taped with black colored paper.changing waters like once a week and feeding it like once a day. Its kinda healthy but extremly aggressive.i remember there was once i stuck my finger in it juz bite onto my fingernail tip and hold on to it.It was so aggressive that it will shred the fins of any male bettas it encounter.
