Normally i will put them together without feed them for 1 or 2 days. if you see the eggs then just take out the female and leave the male there.
the male will take care of the baby

I am not sure leaving the female in with the male 1-2 days. Even half a day her fins have been shredded to pieces. Wont the male kill the female eventually?
