My current Betta tank is 1 and a half feet plastic tank with waterfall type filtration and 2 java ferns, small stone gravels & a ceramic pot.. Pics below..
About 6 months back i got myself 4 black neon tetras.. i added them into the tank below and they have been living peacefully together with the betta.. since the last 2 weeks though the tetras died, 3 by old age?(i dont know, no physical symptoms), 1 died by being sucked in the pump (i forgot to plug in the last piece of the sucking pipe which has a mesh to keep the fish out, my bad).. My question is, has anyone tried keeping bettas with other type of fishes? I know gouramis are not suitable as betta tank mates.. some fight with bettas.. some dont.. based on my personal experience.. I'm thinking of getting a few rummy nose tetras next for his next tankmates.. ![]() ![]() One more thing.. i'm not a new member i'm just lazy to remember my login\password.. it's been a while since i last posted here.. i'll search around.. maybe some of my old posts is here.. somewhere.. :P whaddaya know.. here's an old post of mine.. http://www.myfishforum.com/thread1637.html Last edited by freestyler7707 : 08-02-2006 at 12:42 PM. |

I hv a problem with my goldfish tank as some 'jentik-jentik'(mosquito larva) in the tank .so i add some zebra danios and some guppy.End up becomes my goldie snack.so i try put a halfmoon betta and sucessfully control the larva population. He aslo can defend himself in the tank and don't seem bordering my goldfishes.
I do mixed a pair plakat with my discus and angelfish with no problem they also breed in the tank without sucessfull.always disturd by my discus and angelfish in the 4 foot tank.I hv a communities tank 3 foot with a long finned betta and his tank is Colisa Labiosa,Austaralia rainbow and silver dollar. But the silver dollar like to nipped the betta tail ,so now he alone in the bottle. U might try some corydoras, black widow, colombia ,tetra giant guppy or any fish bigger or same size than ur betta.barbs family is totally NO,NO.hope that works.cheers

I don't know how you would mix a betta with a goldfish as one is tropical and the other is a cold water fish...But anyway, there are many fish that can mix well with betta, I myself have Platys and Feather tailed Corys in my tank with my betta and there is no problem. Most Tetra will do good with a betta from what I've been lead to believe, as long as they are not to small they think its food. Avoid aggressive fish, as well as really colorful long tailed fish as they might think that it is another Betta and you should be fine!

I've had various bettas in various community tanks over the last few years. I've kept long-finned bettas as well as plakats with other fish which include: veil-tail angelfish, various tetras (neons, lemons, cardinals, rummy-nose....) without any problems. I've also kept 2 plakats in a 4ft tank together with the other fish and had no problems. The tank was very heavily planted and the 2 plakats would pass each other in the tank, flare at each other then move along - no fighting.
Generally, bettas are only aggressive with other bettas and anabantoids. Other fish are far more likely to be aggressive towards bettas because bettas are slow swimmers. Don't keep bettas with livebearers unless you are trying to control the fry population - bettas will snack on the fry. |
