hmm u can try to turn off the pump.. and let it be.. betta is livebearer, no need pump to giv oxygen heh.. ur setup is same as mine.. there is no problem..

i think there is a period for them to breed, cos b4 that even i din put the female inside the tank.. jus fighting by looking at the mirror, the fish start buidling nest(bubble).. but somehow i din c them doin so, i mean for now..

hmm.. i been breeding em twice.. i got few hundred of baby.. but it die after aweek.. i wonder y? wat should i do after the baby start swimming? i have been feeding em egg york and sera baby food.. but i think it pollute the water.. hmm can anyone giv some advice on how to keep emm after they start swimming.. do i need to take the male out? and wat should i do if the water is pollute?

Heheh... I think you meant surface breather, right gooner? Livebearer is completly different.....

Ya, anyway, i use the same setup too, but without the air pump. And do try to cover the tank partially. This is to reduce air movement of the water surface.

Give the pair time to get to "know" each other first.... Can't expect them to rush into things right? Anyway, read up this site if possible:

http://www.flippersandfins.net/bettabreedingarticle.htm

Especially about identifying when the pair (most importantly the female) are ready to breed... There are some signs....

Right, now to brood feed.... For first feed (day 1-4 after hatching), I feed green water, which contain paramecia. I dont like to use egg yolk as it pollutes the water too fast, and can dramatically decrease the pH level (deadly to fries). If at all possible, feed daphnia (water fleas) after the first week. If not, feed baby brine shrimps. This is easier to get, and easier to prepare. Other feed are vinegar eels and microworms.
