My betta, named Beta, is about 5 years old. He's lived through some tough times so I know he isn't a weakling. Before I had him he was my sister's fish but she didn't take very good care of him. I was surprised he was still alive in his algae infested tank with no filtration. I've had him for about 2 years now and only until about a week ago I noticed he was not acting right. For days I would not see him because he'd hide in his plastic cove thing and he wouldn't eat anything. I noticed he had a large (compared to his body) red bump on his tail before the fin. I changed the filter again and hoped for the best. He started to lay ontop of the plastic thing at the very top of the water. Then again for another few days I went without seeing him. Today he came out of hiding and I saw that he had popeye (I looked it up). According to my research it happens when the fish is in a filthy tank. I've kept his tank crystal clear for two years! I read on and it said that it could be caused by Tuberculosis and the fish will die no matter what. Right now he is laying on his side on the bottom of the tank. He has been like that since 3pm and it is now 10:45pm and he is in the exact same position. I see him breathing very heavily. I don't know what I should do; what is the human thing to do? I think he won;t be alive by morning though :'(

Thats him as of this posting. His red bump is on the other side. Poor thing.
