Default Mollies and Platies

I just got my first fish tank and have had it for less than a week, when my husband discovered that there were babies hiding in the stones at the bottom of the tank. At that time I had 2 Mollies, 1 Platy and a Corri. Since they were live babies (fry) I excluded the Corri from the list of possible suspects, and discovered on closer look that our Platy is a boy...and I think that makes it fairly obvious it wasn't him! Now obviously one of my Mollies came pregnant, but I am not sure which one...

Last night I set up a new ten gallon tank to move the adult fish into, so that the babies had a better chance to survive. While I was purchasing the tank I decided to branch into a few more fish and got 2 Platies, 1 Molly and a Skunk Corri (i think he is the cutest!!) Anyway I think I am safe cause my Mollies all seem to look like girls and my Platies are all boys...is there any chance that the Platies will breed with my Mollies...I have read different things and none seem to have solid answers.

Thanx for any input!!!

PS ~ My husband first noticed 5 babies...I have only seen 2, but last night he swore he saw 4. I will update everyone on how they progress...I think they are super cute, one is gold and the other is a silvery grey. (who knows about the other phantom two I have yet to see...)

Many Pecilids, as Platies, Mollies and Guppies, can have 2-3 births with only one mating. I think that this is the solution !!!

Generally they won't crossbreed...unless they get too hyper in their hormones
5 kiddies are a little small for a birth...guess the rest didn't make it. Platies will take out the babies, so if you want to keep them, u should have some folliage inside the tank. Corydoras however will not take any of the frys unless it is dead and that it can fit in its mouth.

One more thing though, i heard that the platies can be somekind of a hermaphrodite...if a male is not available, then a female will turn into a male. I do not know how true is this claim but i do see that my dad's 4 platies multiplying like theres no tomorrow...yup they are all bought as females.
