The male fish taking good care of the eggs wor, sitting on it and fanning it. I didn't even see the eggs until I stare at the male long enough for it to move and show the eggs. The pair laid one strip of eggs along the canister filter intake tube, very convenient to take out If i take the eggs out now will the eggs fungus? The fry they say very hard to raise... coz they are lazy feeders. I plan to put them in a shallow tray and spread liquifry and microworms on the floor. Will this work? Will methylene blue kill the microworms or be absorbed by them? Being grandad not easy |

Dude,
you're not prepared for this batch of eggs... Chances are that you will most likely lose this batch whether you take them out or not. Basically u need to set up an establish tank, say about 2foot, (read as with substantial amount of muck and algae already growing), with a sponge filter and set your pair in there. The male will have to look after the eggs until after they hatch. Even after hatching, the male continues to defend the fry until they're free swimming. U need that established tank for the fry to get their early feed. Eventually, blanched spinach, frozen daphnia or frozen baby brine shrimp will do as fry food after a week or so. They'll breed again in about 3 weeks. |

I actually have a tank with muck and stuff in it, trouble is I don't know if they'll survive the muck lol. Also, there's a chance hydra is still in there... not good for fry. I hate the idea that this bunch of golden eggs are destined to die |

2 days ago saw two already hatched fry near the spawning site... so the rest of the eggs must be hatching soon I guessed. Surprisingly the moment I removed the eggs from the community tank and put it in the hatching tray, almost all of them popped out like popcorn. Hatching could've been triggered by the time the eggs spent out of the water. At the end of that day, left 8 eggs unhatched which all hatched the following day. Counted 53 fry in this spawn. Think it's gonna be a hard time raising them... espescially first two weeks. I tried making green water by using a abrasive pad to scrape the green diatoms off the mucky tank sides and diluting it into the rearing tray. It does have the effect of green water... the water turns green and murky. The sediment from it settles after a day onto the tray surfaces.. so hopefully the fry will feed on this. Also scattering crushed spirulina tabs everywhere. I made an experimental mix of microwaved duckweed which I froze :P. Duckweed apparently has a high protein content, possible for Sturisoma Panamese to start eating this? Will give it a go and post updates

Just like my fries They are feeding on the surface muck of their tray! I can see lines in the muck consisting of algae + spirulina. So I know they are rasping at it. |
